Minister Joe O’Brien welcomes the announcement of Green Party measures in Budget 2025


- The Green Party has secured free travel for all U9s, which has been increased from free travel for U5s
- ⁠They also have secured a “baby boost” payment, which is a one-off payment of €420 paid out following the birth of a newborn from January 1st on a permanent basis

Welcoming the announcement, Joe O’Brien TD said:

“Last year the Green Party extended access for 24- and 25-year olds and young adults to the Leap card. This year we have secured free travel for all U9s, meaning that families can use public transport more frequently and cost effectively.”

Other measures announced are:

- Core social welfare rates to increase by €12 per week
⁠- Rollout of free HRT products
- Students will receive a €1,000 deduction in the student contribution with a similiar one-off reduction in the apprenticeship contribution
- VAT reduction on heat pumps to 9%
- Extension of free schoolbooks to Leaving Cert cycle
