Minister Joe O’Brien opens newly refurbished Community Cultural Centre during visit to Lusk with Minister Heather Humphreys

Minister of State for Community Development, Integration and Charities, Joe O’Brien TD, and Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, yesterday (Tuesday, 25th July, 2023) officially opened the newly refurbished Lusk Community Cultural Centre in County Dublin.

This refurbished Community Cultural Centre in Lusk, Co. Dublin will host a wide range of community activities and exhibitions.

It will also enable organisations and community groups in the area such as cultural and sporting organisations and many more to develop and grow.

The project, which received €500,000 in funding through the LEADER programme, will be used by all local organisations, and bring people together for numerous activities and special events, which reflects the objectives set out by the Town Centres First policy.

The Town Centre First policy aims to create town centres that function as viable,
vibrant and attractive locations for people to live, work and visit, while also
functioning as the service, social, cultural and recreational hub for the local
community.

Officially opening this extension, Minister O’Brien said:

“I am delighted to be here in my home constituency to attend the opening of Lusk Cultural Centre. I know first-hand the significantly positive impact this amenity will have on those of us living in Lusk and the surrounding areas.

“I want to congratulate the community here in Lusk and in particular Lusk Community Council for all their hard work in bringing this fantastic amenity back into public use.

“The Community in Lusk have shown great commitment to working to help improve their town. This was clear to be seen in the participation rates in the Lusk 2030 project – which really led the way nationally in terms of a community led Town Centre First Policy.

“I am glad that my Department has been able to give particular support to Lusk in this respect. The opening of the Community Cultural Centre is a tangible example of government’s commitment and evidence that real change is happening in the town. We need to push on now with building on the Lusk 2030 project and gladly Fingal County Council are buying into the process too with the development of a new Town Team. 

“I have no doubt that this new space will be a great addition for the number of community and voluntary led organisations in the local area.”
