Fingal sports working hand in hand with nature

Sports projects in Fingal will receive funding to protect nature thanks to the new “Amuigh Faoin Spéir” fund launched this week by Minister Catherine Martin. The fund offers up to €25,000 to support sports projects boost biodiversity on public land.

Minister Joe O’Brien, TD for Dublin Fingal welcomed the announcement;

“I am delighted to celebrate National Biodiversity Week with this teaming up of local sports with protecting nature. Local sports and local nature are some of our community’s most valuable features, so it is fantastic for them to work in harmony. Sports clubs can do so much to support biodiversity on their grounds and I encourage all local sports groups to consider taking advantage of this opportunity and to apply by June 21st.”

Every Local Sports Partnership can apply for funding and there will be a focus on boosting biodiversity on outdoor sports facilities that are open to community use. Examples of possible projects include biodiversity pollinator-friendly planting, safe nesting sites for birds, bees and bats, the installation of biodiversity ponds, hedgerow and tree planting and rainwater planters.
