Minister Joe O’Brien Welcomes a total of €330,560 allocated to Fingal County Council under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme and Historic Structures Fund grants 2024.

Today (14th March 2024) Minister of State for Community Development, Charities and Integration, Joe O’Brien has welcomed the announcement of the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) and the Historic Structures Fund (HSF) allocations for 2024.

 

Welcoming the announcement, Minister Joe O’Brien said:

“It is great to see the allocation announcements for 2024 for both schemes, which will not only provide restoration and protection for important buildings and structures in local authority areas, but also provide employment to craftspeople and those working in conservation. I am particularly pleased to see the total allocation for Fingal County Council of €330,560 between the two schemes. This funding will be a welcome support for Fingal’s built heritage and historic structures.”

 

Fingal County Council will receive €111,560 under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme which will see 10 projects funded within the local authority. Under the Historic Structures Fund, Fingal will receive €219,000 to support 4 projects.

 

The schemes fund a variety of repairs and renovation works to prevent deterioration, protect character, and encourage the re-use of protected structures. The schemes also provide important support for the employment of traditional craftspeople and conservation professionals.

 

There are seven types of grants:

  • Built Heritage Investment Scheme: This is the general stream for projects up to €15k

  • Built Heritage Investment Scheme – Thatch: A dedicated stream for thatched buildings

  • Historic Structures Fund – Stream 1: This is the general stream for projects €15k-€200k

  • Historic Structures Fund – Stream 2 – 2025 & Partnership: These are 2-year projects starting in 2024

  • Historic Structures Fund – Stream 2 – 2023/2024: These are 2-year projects that started last year

  • Historic Structures Fund – Vernacular: A dedicated stream for vernacular buildings

  • Historic Structures Fund – Shopfronts: A dedicated stream for shopfronts
