Joe O’Brien TD Welcomes Major Increase in Number of Retrofitted Homes in Dublin in 2022
28th March, 2023
- SEAI National Retrofit Plan Progress Report shows 6,260 properties in Dublin were retrofitted in 2022, an increase of 40% on the previous year.
- National Retrofit Plan on course for target of 500’000 retrofits by 2030.
Joe O’Brien TD, has today (27th March 2023) welcomed the announcement of a significant increase in the number of properties retrofitted in Dublin in 2022, representing a major increase on the previous year.
The SEAI’s Home Energy Upgrades 2022 Annual Report shows that there was a 40% increase in the number of homes retrofitted last year, with 6,260 homes upgraded. The report is the first quarterly report on SEAI delivery against retrofit targets.
Commenting on the report, Minister O’Brien said:
“This is very positive news for Fingal and for the National Retrofit Plan overall. Making our homes warmer, healthier, and cheaper to run is a key part of our Climate Action Plan and it is very encouraging that we are on course to achieve the national target of 500,000 retrofits by 2030.
“The message from the most recent IPCC report on climate is clear. We need to go further and faster in tackling climate change. However, this same report says that we have the solutions, including the solutions to implement better energy efficiency which retrofitting is all about.
“Momentum in retrofit is building in Fingal. The SEAI supported 4,459 home energy upgrades in Dublin during 2021, 6,260 last year, and will deliver even more this year. I have confidence we will meet our targets given the strong pipeline of work in place. We have everything to gain by ramping up year on year – better homes, cheaper bills and less use of polluting and climate damaging fossil fuels.
“I particularly welcome the delivery of almost 4,450 fully funded upgrades for households at risk of energy poverty. These energy upgrades are a crucial support for low-income households during this period of high energy bills. The retrofitting revolution must be part of a broader just transition, and the focus on those most at risk is the right approach.
I would really encourage anyone in Fingal who thinks that they may benefit from an energy upgrade in 2023 to make contact with the SEAI by phone, email, and through their website to explore what supports are available to them.”
