Minister Joe O’Brien Welcomes Significant Improvements to Bus Éireann 101 Route from early April
9th March, 2023
Joe O’Brien TD has welcomed confirmation that the improved 101 bus service will be introduced from the 2nd of April. This will see significant frequency and capacity improvements on the route, which serves much of the north county.
The improved service will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, running every 30 minutes, Monday to Saturday, and every 20 minutes at peak hours. There will continue to be an hourly service Sundays.
The NTA will provide 35 brand new buses, 19 double and 16 single decks, to operate the route, improving the overall capacity of services.
Commenting on the announcement, Joe O’Brien TD said:
“This improved 24/7 101 service represents a significant increase in frequency and capacity for this critical bus route that is relied on by many in the north county for access to Swords, the Airport, and the City Centre. I am very conscious that there have been significant capacity issues with the route in recent months and I am very hopeful that this improved service is a major step towards resolving these.
“This announcement builds on the progress we have made so far in Government on improving access to public transport. Last year, we introduced an overall 20% reduction in public transport fares, the first such reduction in 75 years, and a 50% reduction in travel for young adults (between 19 and 23) with the introduction of the Young Adult Leap Card. This led to a 10% increase in public transport uptake outside the greater Dublin area.
“In Government, the Green Party has increased funding for public transport in every Budget, and this has allowed us to introduce these kinds of improvements. I am very happy to see this investment bearing fruit in Fingal.”
