Boost for Community Centres as Joe O’Brien Secures Additional Funding in Budget 2023
30th September, 2022
Minister Joe O’Brien has welcomed funding announced as part of Budget 2023 for the new Community Centres Investment Fund.
The focus of the Community Centre Investment Fund is to improve, refurbish and revitalise existing centres.
Welcoming the Budget funding, Minister O’Brien said:
“The €20 million in funding as part of Budget 2023 for the new Community Centres Investment Fund is very positive news. It will provide funding for upgrade and improvements to existing centres and to allow a new funding stream to support new centres where they are needed.
“The pandemic showed us the value that community groups can provide, many of whom are reliant on their local community centres for space and resources. We need to ensure that these spaces are properly funded and maintained.
“There has been huge interest in the fund which has received a large number of applications; the funding we have secured in the Budget will ensure that the new fund has the biggest impact possible. I look forward to the announcement of the outcome of the application process in the coming weeks.”
