Joe O’Brien encourages undocumented migrants to apply for the Government’s Regularisation Scheme before closing date

28th June, 2022

Joe O’Brien, TD Minister of State with responsibility for Social Inclusion in the Department of Social Protection is encouraging undocumented migrants in Dublin Fingal to apply for the Government Scheme to regularise thousands of undocumented migrants and their families who are living in Ireland.

The window of opportunity to apply for the life changing Government scheme to regularise their immigration status closes on 31st of July 2022.

Commenting on the Scheme Minister O’Brien said:

With less than a month to go until the scheme closes on July 31st, it is important that undocumented people be made aware of it and apply or seek assistance in applying, so I am asking everyone who may know someone who might benefit from this scheme to raise awareness as much as possible.

The creation of a regularisation scheme was a particularly important inclusion in the Programme for Government from my perspective, and critical to my own support for the Programme. I worked in the area of migrant rights for many years, and I know first-hand the hardships that undocumented people face. This was brought into stark relief during the pandemic, as many undocumented people worked throughout the period in essential roles, in particular caring roles for elderly and vulnerable people, but without the supports that documented migrants can access.

Having worked hard for the introduction of this Regularisation Scheme and I don’t want to see any eligible people left out. If you know of anybody living in our community without legal status, I would really appreciate bringing this opportunity to their attention.
