His Green Party colleague, Minister Catherine Martin announced the details of an overall package of €150 million in new capital grants under the latest round of the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme (SCEP). Clubs in Dublin Fingal will benefit with over €3.3 million in funding being allocated across many different sports.
Minister O’Brien said:
“I’m delighted to say that clubs throughout Dublin Fingal in all branches of sports activities are to benefit from the most significant level of individual awards ever, totalling over €3.3 million. ”
“The past two years have been extremely difficult for many sports clubs but the pandemic really demonstrated the importance of sport for our collective wellbeing. The grants announced today will significantly improve sports facilities in every county. There is a huge variety of different sports covered from competitive, track and field games, sailing, boxing right through to walking. Grants will also cover the costs of provision of new sports halls for multi-use activities.
There was a record number of applications for these grants and the government responded with the largest ever funding allocation which reflects their commitment to promoting sport and the vital role that sport plays in supporting community and individual wellbeing, a role that came into sharp focus during the pandemic.
