Minister O’Brien welcomes funding for Fingal Coastal Way

17th December, 2021

Minister Joe O’Brien has today welcomed the announcement of funding for the Fingal Coastal Way as part of the Greenways funding allocation to local authorities in 2022.

Funding of €350,000 has been allocated to Fingal County Council to progress the project next year as part of the PSC Gate 1 stage.

Speaking on today’s announcement, Minister O’Brien said:

“This funding is reflective of the ongoing commitment of the Green Party in Government to advancing major cycling projects in Fingal and the rest of the country. The commitment to investing €360m per year in active travel over the lifetime of the Government is allowing us to move forward with these projects.

The Fingal Coastal Way has the potential to transform cycling as a transport option in the north county. Greenways are a wonderful amenity for leisure and tourism, and they are also important for everyday journeys to school, work or the shops, and the Fingal Coastal Way will make many more journeys by bike possible.

I look forward to Fingal County Council progressing the project to its next stage as soon as possible.”
