Joe O’Brien welcomes confirmation that greenfield site acquired for St. Michael’s House Special School, Skerries

Minister for Community Development and Charities and local TD Joe O’Brien has welcomed the news that the Department of Education have confirmed that they have acquired a 4-acre green field site in Loughshinny for St. Michael’s House Special School Skerries. He stated that:
“This will come as a relief to parents, young people and staff at St. Michael’s House Special School. The saga for a new site and building has been going on for far too long. I want to pay tribute to those who have remained steadfast in their determination to secure a better environment for the young people that attend the school. ‘Temporary accommodation’ for 38 years is unacceptable and I am glad now that the path is open to an end to this situation. The new site will provide permanent accommodation for the school and will be of a much higher standard.
“Of course the battle is not over and there is a distance to travel before we have a new functioning school. I commit to working with my colleagues Ministers Foley and Madigan to get the building project moving as soon as possible.”
