Minister Joe O’Brien welcomes the announcement that Skerries and Balbriggan are now eligible for LEADER funding
Minister Joe O’Brien has welcomed the major boost to Rural Communities and Enterprises in Dublin with the announcement that the geographical area eligible for funding under the LEADER Programme in his Department of Rural and Community Development has been significantly expanded and will now include Skerries and Balbriggan.
LEADER is an EU funded programme administered by Local Action Groups (LAGs) and supported by the Department of Rural and Community Development.
Minister O’Brien said:
“I am delighted that Skerries and Balbriggan are to be included in the expanded Dublin Rural LEADER Programme. The goal of LEADER is to improve the rural economy and quality of life in these areas. Community Groups and Enterprises in Skerries and Balbriggan will be eligible for LEADER funding and I would encourage projects particularly with a Community, Enterprise and Environmental emphasis to contact Fingal LEADER for more information.”
Dublin Rural LEADER Local Action Group, which oversees the implementation of the funding programme had been working for some time towards expanding the areas that can access LEADER funding and this has now become a reality. The LEADER Programme helps communities to actively engage and to direct the local development of their area, through community-led local development.
