Minister Joe O’Brien welcomes Music Generation Fingal

Minister Joe O’Brien has warmly welcomed the announcement that Music Generation is coming to Fingal, as he has been campaigning for its introduction in recent years. This is Ireland’s national music education programme which strives to transform children and young people’s lives by giving them opportunities to create, play and perform music in their own communities.

Minister O’Brien said:

“This is something I had been pushing Fingal County Council to consider back in 2019 as I pointed out that we were one of the few local authorities in the country not involved.  I am delighted that the collaboration between the Dublin and Dún Laoghaire Education and Training Board and Fingal County Council will improve music education opportunities available to children and young people in Fingal.”

Fingal County Council have said that planning for the implementation of Music Generation Fingal is underway.  They are looking to recruit a new Music Generation Development Officer with specific expertise to oversee programme development.   Anyone interested in this role should go to the website for Dublin and Dún Laoghaire Education and Training Board (DDLETB) and Fingal County Council (FCC) Arts Office website.”

Music Generation is Ireland’s national music education programme, co-funded by U2, The Ireland Funds, the Department of Education and Skills and Local Music Education Partnerships. Prior to coming to Fingal Music Generation’s programme was available in 25 other local authorities in Ireland.
