Minister O’Brien welcomes announcement from Green Party colleague Minister Martin

Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport & Media, Catherine Martin TD announced funding of €29,983 for three pools in Fingal. ALSAA Sports & Leisure Centre will receive €10,481, Gym Plus Swords will receive €9,794 and Portmarnock Sports & Leisure Club will receive €9,708.

Minister Martin said: “While it is appreciated that this is a difficult time for swimming pool operators across the country. The funding announced today will provide financial stability to the sector in the uncertain months ahead. Earlier this year, I announced a significant increase in the budget for sport in 2021, which will provide further resilience to the sport sector as we look to emerge from the current crisis.”

Welcoming the funding Minister O’Brien added: “The pool operators in Fingal need this support in the weeks and months ahead as we work to resume life after the pandemic. By supporting ALAAA, Gym Plus and PSLC in staying operational they can continue to provide safe and essential service which is vital as it means people can use their facilities to get active and healthy and this has never been more important for our physical and mental wellbeing.”

It has been recognised that the changing environment of restrictions has resulted in uncertainty and difficulty in planning for swimming pool operators across the country. This has been taken into consideration by Government with funds being ring-fenced specifically to the address this issue.
